Campuses with stories

CPUT’s District Six Campus sits below Table Mountain. Formerly the Cape Town campus, it was renamed in 2018 in memory of District Six’s rich heritage and to acknowledge the pain caused when the then Cape Technikon was built on land from which residents were forcibly removed under apartheid.

The Bellville Campus is CPUT’s administrative hub, with a face-brick design by architect Revel Fox, the Dome of Remembrance and the Major Sports Hall, where thousands of students graduate each year. The Granger Bay Campus on Cape Town’s seafront houses the Cape Town Hotel School, the oldest in the city, the Department of Maritime Studies and a Survival Centre, plus a training restaurant with ocean views.

How CPUT explains funding

CPUT’s Financial Aid office manages funding for deserving students across all campuses through a transparent assessment process. CPUT explains the differences clearly: bursaries come from companies, NGOs, government departments and SETAs, usually do not need to be repaid, but may include service conditions; loans must be repaid, usually with a guarantor; and scholarships reward past academic excellence, usually without conditions. CPUT stresses that funding is always linked to academic competence, so even needy students must perform academically.

Students apply directly to external funders, but apply at CPUT’s Financial Aid Office for university-administered awards, CPUT scholarships, merit bursaries and dean’s merit bursaries. CPUT’s bursary opportunities page shares calls such as the Aurora Wind Power bursary for West Coast students, and CPUT gathers applications for BankSETA’s IT bursary before BankSETA’s window.

Free online applications at CPUT

CPUT opened 2027 applications on 12 May 2026. Online applications are free, while paper applications carry a fee. Most qualifications close on 31 October 2026, while health sciences and education close earlier, and master’s and doctoral applications close around mid-March 2027.

Staying eligible for CPUT funding
