FASSET, the Finance and Accounting Services Sector Education and Training Authority, funds skills for accounting, auditing, tax, financial management and related professions. Employers in those professions pay the skills levy that FASSET uses, so FASSET’s bursaries follow the needs of accounting firms, finance departments and similar workplaces.

A note on how this page was researched
FASSET’s website did not return readable content when BursariesAfrica tried to research this profile on 15 September 2026. The information below comes from FASSET’s published bursary calls, a provider record checked in August 2026 and BursariesAfrica’s own 2027 bursary research. Readers should check every date and requirement on fasset.org.za before applying.
Several streams, several deadlines
FASSET splits its funding into streams aimed at different people. The employed bursary helps people already working in the sector to study further, and FASSET closed the 2027 employed round on 17 August 2026. University and TVET student bursaries follow a different calendar: FASSET usually advertises those late in the year or in January and closes them around February.
FASSET also runs the Outstanding Study Debt Assistance Grant. The grant helps graduates and employees who completed a finance or accounting qualification but still owe money to their institution, a debt that can stop a university from releasing a certificate or blocking professional registration.
No tie to one employer
Company bursaries usually bind students to the funder. FASSET’s do not carry that kind of work-back contract, because FASSET’s mandate covers the whole sector rather than one firm. FASSET has particularly targeted strong matric achievers heading into accounting and finance, which gives the sector a longer pipeline than recruiting only graduates.
What to check before applying
Because FASSET’s calls change each cycle, confirm which stream applies to you, whether your qualification appears on FASSET’s list for that call, and which documents FASSET wants, such as proof of household income or an employer letter. Watch fasset.org.za from November 2026 for the 2027 student calls.
Students already working in accounting firms can also ask their employer’s skills development facilitator, who submits the firm’s workplace skills plan to FASSET and often hears about FASSET funding windows first.
