From vacation work to a training contract
PwC describes a ladder of opportunities for students and graduates. Students can start with vacation work that puts classroom theory into practice, and graduates move into training contracts that lead to registration as a chartered accountant. PwC runs a graduate registration platform where students search and apply for the training opportunities that match their studies.
PwC’s career development page adds a warning worth taking seriously: completing the training contract is only part of success at PwC, and each trainee must take personal responsibility for managing their own development.
The CA Programme bursary window
PwC runs its CA Programme bursary round every year from 1 July to 31 August. The 2027 round opened on 1 July 2026 and closed on 31 August 2026. Students who missed it should prepare for the same July to August window in 2027 and should apply for vacation work in the meantime, because vacation work builds the relationship that a later bursary application depends on. Mark 1 July in your calendar now.
The PwC bursary funds students who intend to complete their training contract at PwC, so accepting it commits you to starting your career at the firm.
How to research PwC properly
PwC’s research reports give applicants material for interviews. A student who has read PwC’s analysis of technology in South African mining, or its study of artificial intelligence returns in Africa, can speak about PwC’s actual work instead of repeating general statements about the Big Four. Register on PwC’s graduate platform early, because the platform shows vacation work and training opportunities that open before the bursary window.
Both of our PwC pages describe the same CA Programme bursary under different titles, so read either one for the requirements, then confirm everything on pwc.co.za.
