From a Berlin courtyard to a global group

Siemens began more than 175 years ago as a ten-person workshop in a back courtyard at Schöneberger Strasse 19 in Berlin. The invention of the dynamo and large, technically demanding projects brought Siemens & Halske international acclaim, and the company later built Siemensstadt, an industrial campus outside Berlin.

Siemens is open about the darker parts of its history. Siemens acknowledges that in Nazi Germany its activities included the use of forced labour, and it says World War II cost the company four-fifths of its assets before it rebuilt and returned to international markets by the mid-1950s.

Industrial AI and digital twins

Siemens’ purpose is to create technology to transform the everyday, for everyone. Siemens has launched the Eigen Engineering Agent, an AI tool that carries out industrial automation engineering tasks for more than 600 000 users of its TIA Portal software, and is building an industrial AI operating system with NVIDIA. Siemens’ digital twins, virtual models of real systems, help run a university campus in Australia and cut energy and water use at an essential oils cooperative in the Amazon.

Siemens Energy, which makes power generation and grid equipment, is a separate company that advertises its own opportunities.

The Engineering and Technology Bursary Programme

Siemens’ bursary targets academically strong students from previously disadvantaged backgrounds in electrical engineering (heavy and light current), electronic engineering, mechatronics, engineering technology, computer science and IT. Matriculants need at least Level 6 for English, Mathematics and Physical Science, and university students at least a 65% average. The bursary covers tuition and prescribed textbooks, often with accommodation, mentorship and career development.

Vacation work at Siemens is a condition of the bursary, and applicants may be asked to complete a virtual video interview. No further bonded work-back period is described publicly. Siemens posted its 2027 listings in July 2026 with no closing date, so apply as soon as possible.
