Why the final year matters

Many students run out of money in their final year, after earlier funding ends or debts build up, and some cannot register or receive their results because of outstanding fees. WENOSA’s scholarship targets that point, when a relatively small amount can decide whether a woman graduates and enters her profession or drops out with no qualification.

Women remain under-represented in engineering, mining, energy, IT and other technical fields in South Africa. By helping women finish their qualifications, WENOSA aims to build a pipeline of female professionals and future leaders across the economy rather than for a single employer.

What the scholarship offers

WENOSA’s scholarship provides up to R50 000 towards tuition for women in the final year of an undergraduate or postgraduate qualification. Funded fields in the 2027 round included accounting, agriculture, architecture, engineering and the built environment, artificial intelligence, IT and computer science, environmental sciences, food security, health sciences, law, logistics, mathematical sciences, mining, energy and industrial fields, research and water sciences.

Applicants must be South African women at accredited institutions with a sound academic record and financial need. The scholarship is not tied to working for any particular company.

Apply only through official channels

WENOSA accepts applications only through its own online platform, not by email, WhatsApp or social media, according to the provider record. That matters because fake scholarship messages often circulate on social media. BursariesAfrica’s research tool could not read a WENOSA website when it checked on 15 September 2026, so confirm the official address before applying.

Timing

The 2027 round closed on 31 August 2026 at 23:59. Expect the 2028 round to open around June 2027.
