VerifiedSASSA pays the children’s grants, meaning the child support grant, the foster child grant and the care dependency grant, on the same day each month. That day comes straight after the older persons and disability grants, usually on the third or fourth working day.

How much the children’s grants pay

The child support grant does not change with the child’s age. Lists showing lower amounts for babies are not correct.
If the money is not in your account
- Check that the children’s grant date has arrived. It is later than the pension date.
- Your money stays in the account after the pay date, so there is no need to withdraw it on the day.
- If you use a card, make sure it is a Postbank black card; gold cards are being switched off.
- If it is still missing a few days after the date, call SASSA on 0800 60 10 11.
Who can get the child support grant
The primary caregiver of a child under 18 can apply if their income is below R5,800 a month when single, or R11,600 combined when married. You apply at a SASSA office with your ID and the child’s birth certificate. See how to apply for the child support grant.
