Silulumanzi is the private water and wastewater utility for Mbombela Local Municipality in Mpumalanga, supplying more than 400 000 people with over 120 million litres of drinking water a day. A subsidiary of South African Water Works, it funds local students in the engineering, science and technical fields it needs to run its plants and networks.

About the Silulumanzi Bursary

The bursary covers registration, tuition, prescribed books and material, and accommodation, and is renewed each year on academic performance. Fields of study are:

• Civil, chemical, electrical and mechanical engineering.
• Biology and environmental science.
• Information technology.
• Quantity surveying.
• Technical qualifications: fitter and turner, millwright and water care.

Silulumanzi Bursary eligibility requirements

• South African citizen.
• Matric with a bachelor’s pass and at least level 6 (70%) in Mathematics and Physical Science.
• Accepted, or enrolled, at an accredited South African institution in one of the fields above.
• Preference for residents of Mbombela, KaNyamazane, Tekwane, Matsulu and surrounding areas.
• Preference for women, previously disadvantaged applicants and people with disabilities.

How to apply for the Silulumanzi Bursary

1. Collect the application form from a Silulumanzi customer care office or download it from silulumanzi.com when the call opens.
2. Attach certified copies of: your birth certificate and ID; your Matric results or certificate; proof of acceptance from the institution; your academic record if already studying; a breakdown of fees from the institution; proof of household income; proof of residence; a motivation letter; and proof of disability if applicable.
3. Hand-deliver the application to the customer care offices in KaNyamazane, Matsulu or Mbombela City, or post it to The Bursary Department, Human Resources, PO Box 12753, Mbombela City, 1200, before the closing date.

The last confirmed closing date was 29 November 2024. Expect the 2027 round to close at the end of November 2026.
