SATC has confirmed that applications for the 2027 bursaries open in December 2026.
VerifiedThe Southern African Transport Conference (SATC) is the region’s largest annual gathering of transport researchers, engineers, planners and policymakers, held in Pretoria each July. Alongside its student essay competition, SATC funds two postgraduate research bursaries a year for Master’s and doctoral students in transportation.
About the SATC Bursary
- Two bursaries a year, for the research component of a full-time Master’s or doctoral degree in transportation.
- Renewable in later years depending on progress.
- Bursars sign a contract with SATC, which keeps the right to engage with their research and to have it presented at the conference.
- Students who do not complete their studies must repay the funds with interest.
The value is set each year by the SATC committee and covers research costs and a contribution to fees.
SATC Bursary eligibility requirements
- A student from a Southern African country.
- Admitted to, and registered full-time for, a Master’s or doctoral degree in transportation at a university.
- Working on the research component of the degree.
- Not receiving any other bursary.
How to apply for the SATC Bursary
- Watch satc.org.za for the December 2026 call and its closing date.
- Prepare a certified ID, your full academic record, proof of registration for the Master’s or PhD, your research proposal and a letter of support from your supervisor.
- Email the application to the SATC Secretariat at info@satc.org.za with the subject line “SATC Bursary 2027” before the closing date.
