Signa Bursary 2027, Requirements & Application

Signa Group is a South African B-BBEE and skills development company. Through the Signa Trust it funds the education of Black South African women, and through Signa Academy it runs accredited learnerships for unemployed youth. The Signa ICT Study Bursary is aimed at young women who want to study a three-year information and communications technology qualification, in a field where women remain under-represented.

Signa Bursary eligibility requirements

• Female and Black South African, as defined in the B-BBEE codes.
• South African citizen, or a permanent resident with proof of residency.
• Completed Matric with results that qualify you for an ICT degree or diploma, including a pass in mathematics.
• Accepted or intending to enrol for a three-year ICT qualification at a recognised South African university, university of technology or accredited college.
• Able to show financial need.

What the bursary covers

The bursary pays tuition for the qualification. Depending on the cycle it has also covered textbooks and a study allowance. The exact benefits are set out in the bursary agreement signed with the Signa Trust.

Signa Bursary application process

1. Contact Signa at info@signa.co.za to confirm the 2027 round is open and to get the application link.
2. Write a motivation letter explaining why you should receive the bursary and what you intend to do with an ICT qualification.
3. Attach certified copies of: your ID (both sides of a smart card), or passport and proof of residency if you are not a citizen; your Matric certificate or latest results; your most recent academic record if you are already studying; proof of acceptance from the institution; and proof of household income.
4. Submit the online application before the deadline given by Signa.

Signa Academy learnerships

If you do not qualify for the study bursary, Signa Academy’s learnerships are a separate route. They combine accredited training with workplace experience and pay a monthly stipend of about R3 000 to R4 000. Fields include information technology, healthcare, engineering and construction, finance, retail and hospitality. Applicants need a South African ID, a CV, proof of their highest qualification and proof of address, and apply through the Signa Academy application portal or the Signa Academy Recruitment app.

Signa Bursary closing date

No closing date has been published for the 2027 intake. Because Signa does not run a fixed annual calendar, ask directly rather than waiting for an advert.
