VerifiedTuksSport, the University of Pretoria’s sports department, is one of the strongest university sport programmes in Africa and home to the High Performance Centre. Its Sport Performance Support Bursary funds student-athletes who compete for the university in one of 25 sporting codes, combining financial support with coaching and sports science services.
About the TuksSport Bursary
- Sporting codes: archery, athletics, badminton, basketball, canoeing, chess, cricket, cycling, fencing, football, golf, gymnastics, hockey, judo, karate, netball, rowing, rugby, squash, swimming, tennis, trampoline, triathlon, volleyball and wrestling.
- Support is awarded for one sport only and for one academic year at a time; students reapply each year.
- Covers a contribution to study costs, set according to sporting level, plus coaching, conditioning and sports science support through TuksSport.
- Bursars represent the University of Pretoria in their sport and take part in TuksSport activities.
TuksSport Bursary eligibility requirements
- Accepted and registered as a full-time student at the University of Pretoria for the funding year.
- Excellence in a listed sport, normally at provincial or national level.
- Willing to participate in TuksSport activities and meet its sporting expectations.
- Meeting the university’s academic requirements for admission and progression.
How to apply for the TuksSport Bursary
- Apply for admission to the University of Pretoria first; the bursary depends on registration.
- Open the TuksSport bursary application form linked from up.ac.za/tukssport when the call is open.
- Upload an A5 action photograph in JPEG format, your Grade 11 results if you are a Matriculant, a sports CV listing achievements and levels, and evidence of leadership or cultural achievements.
- Submit before the closing date. Late or incomplete applications do not enter the awarding process.
