N1 to N3 are not the same as the NC(V). The NC(V) is a separate three-year programme at NQF Levels 2 to 4 that is still offered.
The old N1 to N3 timeline

What to study instead
- NC(V) engineering programmes: three years from Grade 9, ending at NQF Level 4.
- Occupational trade qualifications: electrician, plumber, fitter and turner and more, with theory, practical and workplace modules.
- Apprenticeships: with an employer, leading to a trade test.
