Why the Grade R diploma is closed
- The Department of Higher Education and Training says the Diploma in Grade R Teaching is not intended for first-time entrants to teaching.
- Unisa designed it for practitioners already working in Grade R, who had to show proof of employment.
- People who meet the requirements should take the BEd Foundation Phase instead.
If you already work in Grade R
The Department of Basic Education and Unisa are upgrading Grade R practitioners. Practitioners apply for the BEd Foundation Phase, and those who do not qualify start with the Higher Certificate in Education.
