Applications for the 2027 academic year are open and close on 30 September 2026.
The Northern Cape Provincial Government funds undergraduate study for unemployed young people from the province through the Office of the Premier’s bursary programme, administered by the Northern Cape Premier’s Education Trust Fund. It is worth up to R120 000 a year and gives priority to science, technology, engineering and mathematics and other scarce skills the province struggles to fill.
About the Northern Cape Premier’s Bursary
- Value: up to R120 000 a year, on a sliding scale by household income. Households earning up to R350 000 qualify for R120 000, up to R550 000 for R100 000 and up to R800 000 for R80 000.
- Covers registration fees, tuition, prescribed books and accommodation. Existing debt is excluded.
- Fields: undergraduate qualifications in scarce and critical skills, with priority for science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
Northern Cape Premier’s Bursary eligibility requirements
- South African citizen aged 18 to 30, living in the Northern Cape.
- Unemployed.
- In Matric or completed Matric.
- Accepted or enrolled at an accredited South African institution for a first undergraduate qualification in a priority field.
- Strong academic results and demonstrated financial need.
How to apply for the Northern Cape Premier’s Bursary
- Download the application form from the bursaries page at northern-cape.gov.za/bursaries.
- Attach a certified ID, your Matric results or academic transcripts, proof of acceptance or registration, the curriculum for your course, proof of household income and, if you are 23 to 30, a SARS confirmation of your tax status.
- Email everything to BursAdmin@ncpetf.onmicrosoft.com with the subject line “NCPG Bursary 2027”, or hand-deliver it to the T&I Office Building, 69 Memorial Road, Monument Heights, Kimberley, 8301, by 30 September 2026.
