Fields of Study Funded
The AECI bursary supports full-time study in the following fields at accredited South African universities or universities of technology:
- Agriculture / Crop Science / Soil Science
- Plant Pathology / Entomology / Food Science
- Chemical Engineering / Chemical Engineering – Process Control
- Mechanical, Industrial, Mining, Metallurgical Engineering
- Electrical, Electronics, Control or Mechatronics Engineering
- Computer Science, Computer or Software Engineering / Data Science / Information Security (Cybersecurity)
- Environmental Science, Project Management, Logistics Management, Human Resource or Marketing & Communications
Benefits for Recipients
This bursary may cover:
- Tuition and registration fees
- Book allowance or prescribed study materials
- Accommodation support, based on need and funding availability
- Recipients may access mentoring, industry insights, networking events, and vacation work placements.
Graduates typically commit to work-back service: approximately one year of work at AECI for each two-year bursary.
Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible, you must:
- Be a South African citizen
- Have Matric or be in Matric with strong academic results
- Be enrolled, or intend to enrol, full-time in one of the eligible fields at an accredited tertiary institution
- Demonstrate an above-average academic record (typically 60% or more)
- Have no criminal record

- When it opens, complete the AECI bursary application form accurately.
- When asked where you heard about bursaries, enter “www.bursariesafrica.co.za.”
