The Mining Services bursary for 2027 closed on 27 April 2026, and the Nkomati Anthracite bursary closed on 23 August 2026.

Afrimat is a JSE-listed open-pit mining and materials group supplying aggregates, industrial minerals, iron ore and anthracite. It does not run one bursary but several: a group-wide Mining Services award for mechanical engineers, and separate community-linked bursaries at its quarries and at the Nkomati Anthracite mine.

  • Field: mechanical engineering only, at national diploma, BTech or bachelor’s degree level.
  • Covers study costs at an accredited South African tertiary institution, with the package set per student.
  • Bursars do vocational work and site visits during university holidays.
  • Other Afrimat bursaries: Nkomati Anthracite, and the Blue Rock, Coega and Denver quarries, each with its own fields and communities.

Afrimat Bursary eligibility requirements

  • South African citizen who has completed Matric.
  • Enrolled at an accredited South African tertiary institution in the funded field.
  • A strong academic record and a genuine interest in the discipline.
  • Medically fit under the Mine Health and Safety Act, and willing to do vocational work and site visits.

How to apply for the Afrimat Bursary

  1. Open the careers portal at afrimat.co.za and find the bursary listing for the operation you are applying to.
  2. Compress the completed Afrimat bursary application form, a certified ID, a certified academic transcript, certified proof of residence and a CV into a single file of no more than 3MB.
  3. Submit online before the closing date. Late applications are not accepted.
