Altech was the technology division of Altron, the JSE-listed ICT group founded by Bill Venter in 1965, and for decades it funded engineering and IT students through the Altech bursary. That programme now runs as part of the Altron Bill Venter Academy, which funds students in engineering, IT and technology fields and feeds them into Altron’s graduate programme.
About the Altech and Altron Bill Venter Academy Bursary
- Fields: electrical, electronic and computer engineering, information technology, computer science, software engineering and related technology degrees. Earlier Altech rounds also funded accounting and finance.
- Covers full tuition, accommodation, books and study materials and a monthly living allowance for full-time undergraduate or postgraduate study.
- Includes vacation work at Altron businesses and consideration for the Altron graduate programme.
Altech Bursary eligibility requirements
- South African citizen from a previously disadvantaged background.
- Studying, or accepted, full-time in a listed field at a public university or university of technology.
- A strong academic record, with Mathematics and Physical Science in Matric for engineering.
- Demonstrated financial need.
How to apply for the Altech Bursary
- Watch the careers pages on altron.com for the Bill Venter Academy bursary advert from September.
- Complete the online application and upload a certified ID, your Matric certificate or academic transcripts, proof of acceptance or registration, proof of household income and a motivation letter.
- Submit before the closing date. Only online applications are accepted, and shortlisted candidates are assessed and interviewed.
