About the Armscor Bursary Programme
Armscor, in partnership with the defence industry, offers this bursary to address the shortage of critical science and engineering skills in South Africa.
The programme focuses on:
- Supporting students in technical and scientific fields
- Promoting strong performance in Mathematics, Physical Science, and technical subjects
- Preparing graduates for careers in the defence and engineering sectors
The bursary is awarded to students studying full-time at a recognised public tertiary institution in South Africa.
Fields of Study Covered
Armscor bursaries are awarded for the following fields:
- Aeronautical Engineering
- Biochemistry / Chemistry and Physics
- Electronics / Electrical Engineering
- Human Kinetics & Ergonomics Science
- Computer Science / IT / Cyber Security / Artificial Intelligence
- Physics & Astrophysics
- Mechanical / Mechatronics Engineering
- Naval / Marine Engineering
Only students studying within these fields will be considered.
What the Bursary Covers
The Armscor bursary provides full financial support, including:
- Tuition fees
- Accommodation and meals
- Prescribed textbooks
- Living allowance
- Vacation work (where possible)
This means successful applicants can focus on their studies without worrying about major financial costs.
Eligibility Requirements
Applicants must meet all of the following requirements:
- Must be a South African citizen
- Must come from a household with a combined gross annual income of R1 000 000 or less
- Must have an interest in working in the defence industry
- Must have achieved levels 5, 6, or 7 in:
- Mathematics
- Physical Science
- English
- Must be studying or planning to study in one of the approved fields
- Must be studying or planning to study at a recognised public tertiary institution in South Africa
- Must have excellent academic results
How to Apply
Applications must be submitted by email or by post.
Step 1: Prepare the following certified documents
- South African ID (applicant)
- Matric mid-year results (if currently in Grade 12)
- Matric certificate (if completed)
- Full academic record (if already at tertiary level)
- Parent(s) or guardian(s) ID documents
- Proof of parent(s) or guardian(s) income (pay slips, employment letter, SASSA letter, or affidavit)
- Death certificate (if a parent is deceased)
Additional documents required later
- Final Matric results
- Proof of university acceptance or registration
- Student number
- Fees statement (if already studying)
