Armscor Bursary 2026 – Science & Engineering Support for Defence Careers

About the Organisation

The Armaments Corporation of South Africa (Armscor) was founded in 1968. 

It acts as the arms procurement agency for the Department of Defence and plays a key role in national defence innovation.

Fields of Study Funded

The bursary supports full-time undergraduate and postgraduate study in fields aligned with the defence industry, including:

  • Aeronautical Engineering
  • Biochemistry; Chemistry & Physics
  • Computer Science, Information Technology, Cyber Security, AI
  • Electrical/Electronics Engineering
  • Industrial Engineering
  • Mechanical & Mechatronics Engineering
  • Human Kinetics & Ergonomics Science
  • Materials Science; Metallurgical Engineering
  • Naval/Marine Engineering; Applied Mathematics; Physics & Astrophysics

Eligibility Criteria 

You must meet all of the following:

  • Be a South African citizen
  • Have completed Matric
  • Achieved minimum levels of Matric in Mathematics, Physical Science and English (usually ≥ Level 5 to Level 7) 
  • Plan to study full-time in one of the eligible fields at a recognised South African tertiary institution
  • Show strong academic performance
  • Demonstrate interest in a career within the defence technology sector
  • Preference is given to applicants from previously disadvantaged backgrounds

How to Apply

  1. Visit the official Armscor bursary portal to download the 2026 application form when available.
  2. Complete the form precisely and gather your documentation.
  3. In the field asking “Where did you hear about bursaries?”, enter “www.bursariesafrica.co.za.”
  4. Submit via email to [email protected], with the subject: “Armscor Bursary Application – [Your Full Name]”
  5. Alternatively, submit a hard copy by post to the Senior Manager: Learning & Organisation Development, Armscor LTD, Private Bag X337, Pretoria, 0001

Required Documents

Include certified, clear copies of:

  • South African ID document
  • Matric certificate or mid‑year Matric results
  • Full academic transcript if already studying
  • Proof of acceptance or registration at a recognised tertiary institution
  • Parents’ or guardians’ ID documents and proof of household income (payslips, affidavit, SASSA grant letter, etc.)
  • Death certificate of parent/guardian, if applicable
  • A cover letter explaining your chosen field of study and motivation

Shortlisted candidates will be asked to submit final Matric results, proof of registration, student number, and a tertiary fees statement.

The closing date for the 2026 application has not yet been published. The application window for 2025 closed on 28 February 2025.
