Basil Read, founded in 1952 and based in Boksburg, is one of South Africa’s long-established construction and mining services contractors. Its bursary funds students already at university or college in civil engineering, mining engineering and quantity surveying, the disciplines its road, dam and mining contracts depend on, and gives them vacation work on its sites.

About the Basil Read Bursary

Fields: civil engineering (BSc or BEng), mining engineering (degree or national diploma) and quantity surveying (degree or national diploma).
Covers tuition and registration fees, textbooks, stationery, accommodation and meals for the remaining years of the qualification.
Includes vacation work on Basil Read projects for practical experience, and bursars may be offered employment after graduating.

South African citizen.
Matric with strong Mathematics and Physical Science results.
In the second year or later of full-time study in a listed field at a recognised South African institution.
Good academic performance in the latest results.
