Bigen is a black-owned African infrastructure development group that designs and delivers engineering projects across the continent from bases in South Africa and Mauritius. Its bursary funds engineering undergraduates, brings them in for paid vacation work and folds them into the Bigen Young Professionals Forum, so bursars meet the firm long before they graduate.

About the Bigen Bursary

  • Fields: BSc and BEng degrees in chemical, civil, electrical, electronic, industrial, mechanical and mechatronics engineering.
  • Covers tuition and registration fees, books and other necessary study costs. Accommodation and residence fees are not included.
  • Adds paid vacation work, regular contact with the firm, invitations to Bigen functions and membership of the Bigen Young Professionals Forum.

Bigen Bursary eligibility requirements

  • South African citizen enrolled at an accredited South African university.
  • First-year applicants: at least a 70% average. Second and third-year applicants: at least 65%.
  • Not receiving another bursary or NSFAS funding.
  • Demonstrated leadership ability.

How to apply for the Bigen Bursary

  1. Open the bursary programme page at bigengroup.com when the round opens.
  2. Upload a certified ID, Matric certificate, academic record, proof of registration, a CV in PDF format, your banking details and proof of residential address.
  3. Submit online before the closing date. Only shortlisted applicants are contacted.
