Fields of Study
The built environment covers architecture, civil engineering, quantity surveying, construction and project management, town planning, land surveying and landscape architecture.
Each profession has its own qualification and council, overseen by the Council for the Built Environment: SACAP for architecture, ECSA for engineering, SACQSP for quantity surveying, SACPCMP for project and construction management, SACPLAN for planning, SAGC for surveying and SACLAP for landscape architecture.
Most start with a degree or diploma, followed by candidate registration, supervised experience and a professional assessment.
