Astron Energy is a major petroleum company in South Africa operating the Cape Town refinery and numerous service stations.
It is committed to growing communities and advancing skills through bursary initiatives.
Fields of Study Funded
The bursary supports a wide range of full-time undergraduate or postgraduate studies, including:
- Engineering: Chemical, Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial (BSc or BEng, not BEng Tech)
- Commerce: Accounting, Finance, Economics, Project Management, Business Administration, HR, Marketing, Supply Chain, Digital Marketing
- IT & Data: Computer Science, Information Systems, IT, Data Analytics
- Science & Environmental: Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Environmental Studies, Sustainability, Climate Change & Sustainable Development
- Other: Communication, Media Studies, Occupational Health & Safety
Benefits for Recipients
Successful candidates receive a full bursary, covering:
- Tuition, registration, textbooks, accommodation, meals, and monthly allowance
- Psycho-social support via Excel@Uni
- Light mentorship and academic support (including tutoring and work readiness training)
- Mandatory obligation to work back for each year funded after graduation
Eligibility Criteria
All of these must be met:
- South African citizen
- Under 35 years old
- Completed Matric or currently in Matric
- Enrolled or intending to enroll full-time (Diploma, Advanced Diploma, Degree, Honours, or Master’s) in a qualifying field
- Studying at a DHET-registered institution (includes universities, private colleges, TVETs)
- Achieved a minimum average of 70% in the last academic year
- Not currently repeating the same qualification level
- Not employed full-time
Students with disabilities are actively encouraged to apply
How to Apply
- Submit your application online via CareerWise (the bursary administrator) once the 2026 intake opens.
- Complete the application form and upload required documents.
- In the field “Where did you hear about bursaries?”, enter “www.bursariesafrica.co.za.”
Required Documents
Prepare certified copies of:
- South African ID
- Matric results or certificate
- Proof of acceptance or registration at a SA institution
- Full tertiary academic transcript (if applicable)
- Motivation letter (1–2 pages)
- CV
- Parent/guardian ID or death certificate, if applicable
- For minors: signed parental consent form
- If disabled: doctor’s letter and Employment Equity Act (EEA1) form
Closing Date
While the 2026 closing date has not been officially set, previous years closed in mid-November to late November / early December.
This year, applicants received feedback on their applications by 31st January, 2025.
