De Beers Group, the diamond miner now wholly owned by Anglo American, runs the Venetia mine near Musina in Limpopo, South Africa’s largest diamond producer. Its South African bursary is a community programme for young people from Venetia’s host municipalities, Blouberg and Musina, and funds engineering, mining, geology and business students from second year onwards with paid vacation work at the mine.
About the De Beers Bursary
- Fields: mining engineering, mechanical and electrical engineering, metallurgy, mineral resource management (geology, geotechnical engineering and survey), accounting and human resources management.
- Covers all study-related costs: tuition, prescribed textbooks and accommodation.
- Includes paid vacation work at Venetia mine and consideration for De Beers’ graduate programmes.
- Institutions: accredited South African universities and universities of technology.
De Beers Bursary eligibility requirements
- South African citizen born or living in the Blouberg or Musina local municipality in Limpopo.
- Matric with at least APS level 5 in Mathematics and Physical Science.
- Completed first year and entering second year of full-time study in a listed field.
- Not holding another bursary. Historically disadvantaged applicants are preferred.
How to apply for the De Beers Bursary
- Watch debeersgroup.com/careers and municipal notice boards in Musina and Blouberg for the advert.
- Prepare a certified Matric certificate, your full academic record with recent transcripts on the institution’s letterhead, a CV, proof of birth or residence in the municipality and a letter from the municipality or tribal council confirming you are from the area.
- Email the application to the Venetia recruitment address given in the advert, or drop it at the mine’s HR office or the community drop-off boxes, before the closing date.
