This bursary supports learners who aim to complete formal qualifications that align with scarce and critical skills in the FAS sector.

Fields of Study Covered by the FASSET Bursary

The bursary covers fields aligned to the FAS sector’s priority occupations. 

These include accounting, finance, auditing, tax services, management consulting, bookkeeping, information technology aligned to the FAS sector, and other national critical skills.

Applicants may be at public universities, universities of technology, or TVET colleges in South Africa.

FASSET Bursary Eligibility Requirements

According to the most recent information:

  1. Applicants must be South African citizens.
  2. Must either be in Matric (Grade 12) or have completed Matric and intend to study or be studying full‑time at a recognised institution.
  3. Must register or be accepted at a public university, university of technology, or TVET college in South Africa.
  4. Household income may need to fall below a specific threshold (for example, one listing states not more than R1 000 000 per annum) for certain streams.
  5. For the employed learner stream: must be working at a registered employer within the FASSET sector and studying a qualification aligned to FASSET’s scarce skills list.

What the FASSET Bursary Covers

  1. For University/University of Technology studies: bursary funding up to about R100 000 per year in previous years.
  2. For TVET college studies: up to about R40 000 per year.
  3. Covers tuition fees, prescribed textbooks, and may include accommodation and meal allowance depending on the stream and institution.
  4. For the employed learner bursary stream: covers tuition and textbooks for one academic year, up to R50 000 per learner in the recent listing.

FASSET Bursary Application Process

  1. Visit the FASSET website bursaries page and download or complete the online application form.
  2. Prepare certified supporting documents: ID copy, academic records (Matric and/or tertiary results), proof of registration or acceptance, proof of household income or employment confirmation (as relevant).
  3. Submit the application and all required documentation by the deadline. Incomplete or late applications may be disqualified.
  4. Selection is generally first‑come, first‑served for certain streams and also based on academic performance and alignment to scarce skills.
