GirlCodeZA Bootcamp Eligibility Requirements

To join the GirlCodeZA Bootcamp, applicants generally need to:

  1. Be female, aged between 18 and 35.
  2. Be a South African citizen (or meet GirlCodeZA’s residency requirement).
  3. Be unemployed at the time of application.
  4. Have completed an IT- or STEM-related qualification, such as a diploma or degree.
  5. Be able to commit to a 3-month online programme, with live classes and coursework.
  6. Have working English proficiency, a laptop, and stable internet access.

What the GirlCodeZA Bootcamp Covers

The GirlCodeZA Bootcamp offers:

  1. Live online classes: About 3 hours per weekday via Microsoft Teams, delivered by experienced facilitators.
  2. Work-readiness sessions: These prepare participants for workplace environments, soft skills, and professional expectations.
  3. Mentorship: Each participant is paired with an industry mentor for roughly 9 weeks to guide their learning, career goals, and practical projects.
  4. Project-based learning: Students work on real or simulated development challenges, mirroring the workflow in tech teams.
  5. Support resources: Video tutorials, a 24-hour discussion board, and peer collaboration.
  6. Data provision: Participants receive data for the duration of the bootcamp so that connectivity is less of a barrier.
  7. Job-placement support: Graduates access GirlCodeZA’s placement platform and are positioned for roles as “Python developer” or “cloud practitioner”.

Here’s how to apply for the GirlCodeZA Bootcamp:

  1. Online Application
  2. Verification & Aptitude Test
    • After the initial application, candidates complete a verification stage to confirm eligibility.
    • Shortlisted candidates take an aptitude test to assess basic programming or logical thinking.
  3. Submit Supporting Documents
    • Certified ID copy.
    • Certified copy of your qualification certificate (IT or STEM).
    • Proof of disability (if applicable).
  4. Selection
    • GirlCodeZA reviews applications based on academic background, motivation, and alignment with the bootcamp goals.
    • Successful applicants are notified and enrolled into the cohort.
