The KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Treasury funds accounting students from the province through its external bursary, one of the schemes advertised together each year by KZN’s provincial departments. The Treasury needs chartered accountants and financial managers for its own offices and for the municipalities it oversees, and bursars sign a service contract to work for it after graduating.
About the KZN Provincial Treasury Bursary
- Field: a bachelor’s degree in accounting. Applicants with disabilities may apply for any field related to the Treasury’s work.
- Covers tuition, accommodation, meals and prescribed textbooks for full-time undergraduate study.
- Bursars sign a service contract to work for the Treasury for a period equal to the funding.
KZN Treasury Bursary eligibility requirements
- South African citizen aged 18 to 35, living in KwaZulu-Natal.
- Completed Matric with the Mathematics and Accounting results the degree requires.
- Studying, or accepted, for full-time undergraduate study at a recognised public institution, preferably in KwaZulu-Natal.
- Young people with disabilities are encouraged to apply.
How to apply for the KZN Treasury Bursary
- Download the application form from kzntreasury.gov.za or the KZN government bursary notice when the advert appears.
- Attach certified copies of your ID, Matric results or certificate, academic records if already studying, proof of registration or acceptance, your parents’ or guardians’ IDs and proof of income, proof of residence and a motivation letter.
- Post it to the Bursary Unit, KZN Provincial Treasury, PO Box 3613, Pietermaritzburg, 3200, or hand-deliver it to Treasury House, 145 Chief Albert Luthuli Road, Pietermaritzburg, before the closing date.

The last confirmed closing date was 15 February 2026. Expect mid-February 2027 for the 2027 academic year.
