About the Master Builders Association Western Cape Bursary
The MBAWC bursary program offers financial assistance to deserving students pursuing qualifications in the built environment sector.
This bursary specifically targets students enrolled in undergraduate and postgraduate degrees or National Diplomas (excluding NSFAS-funded programs) at recognized tertiary institutions within the Western Cape province.
The bursary covers tuition fees only, disbursed in two installments directly to the student’s institution.
The first installment is paid upon funding approval, while the second installment depends on satisfactory academic performance during the year.
Master Builders Association Western Cape Bursary Eligibility Criteria
Before applying, ensure you meet the following minimum requirements:
- South African Citizenship: You must be a South African citizen.
- Western Cape Residency: You must have completed your Matric at a school located within the Western Cape province.
- Field of Study: You must be currently enrolled in, or intend to enroll in, a qualifying built environment program listed above (2024 intake only).
- Tertiary Institution: You must be studying or intend to study at a recognized tertiary institution within the Western Cape.
- Financial Need: You cannot be a recipient of NSFAS funding. Your parents’ or guardians’ annual household income must fall between R350 000 and R600 000 (excluding NSFAS eligibility).
- No Conflicting Bursaries: You cannot be receiving any other bursary fund or support from a SETA/CETA.
- Preference: Preference will be given to applicants who are:
- Family members or employees of MBAWC member companies.
- Employed by a BIBC benefit system-compliant MBAWC member company for at least 24 consecutive months.

To apply for the MBAWC bursary, you’ll need to submit the following documents along with your completed application form:
- Certified copy of your South African ID document.
- Certified copy of your most recent academic record/results.
- Proof of acceptance from your chosen tertiary institution (on official letterhead).
- A motivational letter outlining your academic goals and career aspirations.
- An affidavit confirming your parents’ or guardians’ income exceeds the NSFAS threshold (details provided on the application form).
