Fields Covered by SITA
SITA only funds qualifications that directly maintain government infrastructure. If your degree isn’t on this list, your application will likely be filtered out immediately:
- Computer Science
- Information Technology
- Cyber Security
- Informatics (with a focus on Artificial Intelligence)
Generally, SITA as an organization is more focused on making service delivery, coordinating  State information technology resources to achieve cost savings through scale, increase delivery capabilities and enhance interoperability.  If you have courses that directly relates to their priorities, like System Analysis, Cyber Security, Computer system, make sure you highlight this information in your documents when applying
Admission and Eligibility Requirements
To be considered for the 2027 intake, you must meet these strict criteria:
- Citizenship: South African citizens only.
- Academic Standing: A minimum overall average of 70% (for both Matric and University levels).
- Institution: Must be enrolled full-time at a public South African university or TUT.
- Exclusivity: You cannot hold another bursary (like NSFAS or a private mine bursary) alongside SITA.
Do not be discourage by 70% demand, from my experience, if you overall average is 65% but you have distinction is any of the courses mentioned ealier, you sill have a strong change because SITA is more focused what your can do.
Required Documents Checklist
Before logging into the portal, ensure you have these documents scanned as PDFs (under 2MB each):
- Certified South African ID copy.
- Final Matric results or latest university transcript.
- Official proof of university registration/acceptance.
- A technical CV (highlight any coding projects or GitHub links).
How to Apply
- Prepare Your Tech: Use a desktop computer with a stable connection. Avoid applying on a mobile phone as the document uploaders often fail.
- Access the Portal: Visit the SITA Careers Portal.
- Registration: Create a profile and keep your login details safe for 2027 tracking.
- The “Statement of Results”: When uploading university marks, ensure the school stamp is visible. Blurry documents are the #1 reason for “Automated Rejection.”
During Application periods, SITA website often faces some challengs basically due to the high number of people trying to submit applications, be sure to apply at least 2 weeks from the closing date so you do not have challenges.

SITA isn’t looking for “general” students. They want technical problem solvers.
- Align with Government Goals: Mention an interest in “Network Management” or “Digital Services” in your CV. These are SITA’s core priorities for 2027.
- The “Work-Back” Commitment: Be prepared to work for SITA after graduation. Mentioning your willingness to serve the public sector in your motivation letter (if required) is a massive green flag for the selection committee.
Note that this bursary requires some form of dedication, passion and resilient, you will work on projects, work with teams and work on systems that will solve actual problems. If you are just looking for support to fund your education , this bursary might not be the right choice
