NSFAS Allowance Payments to TVET College Students

The National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) pays TVET college allowances monthly, once colleges submit their registration data.

In June 2026, NSFAS confirmed that qualifying students whose colleges had submitted registration data started receiving payments from 25 June 2026.

“We are pleased to announce that NSFAS has started making allowance payments to NSFAS-funded students at TVET colleges,” the scheme said at the time.

Example: NSFAS Payment Dates for June 2026

  • Student allowances: paid from 25 June 2026
  • Accommodation allowances: paid by 27 June 2026
  • Tuition payments to colleges: To reflect within a few days

Students should note that while all payments are processed at the same time, the actual date they reflect in individual bank accounts may vary. This is due to delays between different banking institutions.

“The time of receiving these funds may differ between students depending on the banking institutions they use,” NSFAS clarified.

Allowances for 2026: What TVET College Students Will Receive

NSFAS pays several types of allowances based on where a student lives, whether they have a disability, and their specific needs. Below is a breakdown of the main allowances for TVET College students in 2026:

Personal Care Allowance

  • R316 per month
  • Paid to students living in catered residences

Living Allowance

  • R1,716 per month for students in non-catered metro or non-metro accommodation
  • R2,080 per month for students with disabilities
  • Students receiving transport allowances are also eligible for this amount

Transport Allowance

  • R802 per month
  • Paid to students living more than 10km from campus and not in NSFAS accommodation

Accommodation Allowance

  • Paid directly to colleges or approved private accommodation providers
  • Amounts vary based on location and type of residence

Students Urged to Spend Responsibly

NSFAS reminded students that allowances are meant to support their education. Students are expected to use these funds responsibly for essentials such as food, learning materials, transport, and rent.

“You are reminded to use the funds responsibly and for the purposes related to learning,” NSFAS emphasized.
