The Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa runs Metrorail and long-distance passenger trains. Its bursary funds engineering and quantity surveying students to help rebuild the country’s commuter rail network.

About the PRASA Bursary

  • Fields: civil, electrical, electronic, industrial and mechanical engineering, and quantity surveying.
  • Covers registration, tuition, exam fees and prescribed books.
  • Degree and diploma level at public institutions.

PRASA Bursary eligibility requirements

  • South African citizen aged 18 to 35.
  • In Matric or with Matric, studying full-time at a public institution.
  • At least a 60% average if already studying.
  • Financial need; preference for orphans, child-headed households and top performers.

How to apply for the PRASA Bursary

  1. Check the careers pages on prasa.com for the 2027 call and form.
  2. Prepare a certified ID, Matric certificate, results, acceptance, proof of residence, household income, cost estimates, a motivation letter and a recommendation letter.
  3. Submit as the call directs before the closing date.

Closing date

15 November in the last published round (2024). No 2027 date has been announced.
