Cape Agulhas Municipality

Cape Agulhas Municipality calls itself the southernmost local municipality in Africa. The municipality’s coastline meets both the Atlantic and Indian oceans, which come together at L’Agulhas, the most southern town on the continent. Opportunities for young people

Cape Agulhas Municipality runs programmes aimed at young residents beyond its bursary. The municipality invited young people to the IGNITE Cape Agulhas Youth Summit 2026, which it promoted as a next step for local youth.

The municipality’s vacancies page shows how a bursary can lead to work locally. Recent adverts included three graduate internships for holders of a Diploma in Public Administration, two financial internships in Bredasdorp and a post for a small plant operator. Cape Agulhas Municipality says it aims for a workforce broadly representative of the Western Cape’s people, with employment practices based on ability, objectivity and fairness.

A December to January bursary cycle

Cape Agulhas Municipality has run its bursary over the summer holidays. The 2025 round closed on 17 January 2025 at 12:00, and the municipality later advertised a cycle with a 20 December closing date. The shift shows that the deadline can move by several weeks, so residents should not rely on last year’s date.

How residents can prepare and verify

Watch capeagulhas.gov.za and the municipal offices in Bredasdorp from November, and email the municipality to ask whether the next round will close in December or January. Ask which fields the bursary funds, whether TVET college study qualifies and whether bursars must work for the municipality after qualifying.

Prepare proof of residence, certified copies of your ID and results, and proof of registration or acceptance before the advert appears, because a December deadline leaves little time over the festive season.

Graduates should keep an eye on the municipality’s internship adverts too. A financial or public administration internship at Cape Agulhas gives practical experience close to home, which strengthens later job applications in local government.

The area’s economy of farming, fishing and coastal tourism means that fields such as agriculture, tourism management and environmental science can matter locally, alongside municipal finance and engineering.
