Power projects across Africa
Globeleq invests capital to improve existing plants and to bring new utility-scale power projects to Africa. Globeleq’s portfolio includes, for example, a 66 MWp solar photovoltaic plant in the Benban Solar Park near Aswan in Egypt, which Globeleq acquired from ARC for Renewable Energy.
In South Africa, Globeleq South Africa Management Services (GSAMS), based in Claremont, Cape Town, manages independent power producer facilities that sell electricity into the national grid under long-term power purchase agreements.
The Globeleq Scholarship Fund
The Globeleq Scholarship Fund (GSF), launched in 2014, is funded jointly by the independent power producers GSAMS manages and by the Globeleq Educational Trust. According to a provider record checked in August 2026, the fund has awarded about R10.3 million to students so far.
The fund supports students in more than one way. Nationally, the fund supports mechatronic and electrical engineering qualifications, which match the technical skills renewable energy plants need. For students from the communities near Globeleq’s projects, the fund also supports education, agriculture and nursing qualifications, which serve those communities’ own needs.
How to research the scholarship
Email the scholarship team and ask which communities qualify for the community stream, which institutions the national engineering stream accepts, and when the next application window opens. Our Globeleq guide has not been refreshed with 2027 dates.
Learn how wind and solar plants work before applying for the engineering stream. A student who understands inverters, turbines and grid connection can explain why a renewable energy career appeals.
Students from communities near Globeleq’s South African wind and solar plants in the Eastern Cape and Northern Cape should ask their municipality or ward councillor about the community stream, since local leaders often know how community trusts linked to energy projects recruit applicants. Keep proof of residence ready.
