A company built around research
Huawei’s corporate figures explain why the company recruits so many engineers. In 2025 Huawei spent CNY192.3 billion on research and development, 21.8% of total revenue, and 114 000 employees, about 53.7% of the workforce, worked in research and development at the end of 2025. Huawei says the company will go all-in on artificial intelligence.
Seeds for the Future and local skills programmes
Huawei’s best-known student programme is Seeds for the Future, an international initiative that gives top ICT students training in new technologies and exposure to Huawei’s industry work. Huawei has also supported bursary and skills initiatives in South Africa, including programmes run with universities and government.

How to research Huawei programmes yourself
Huawei often runs student programmes through partners rather than advertising them widely. Ask your university’s ICT or engineering faculty whether Huawei is running Seeds for the Future or a Huawei ICT Academy on campus, and check the Department of Communications and Digital Technologies for partnership announcements. Huawei’s ICT competitions for students are another route to meeting Huawei’s local teams.
When you find a call, confirm it on huawei.com or with the university partner, and never pay anyone to enter a Huawei programme.
Students who want to work at Huawei after graduating should also look at Huawei’s certification courses in areas such as networking, cloud and data. Huawei offers these through its ICT Academy partners, and a Huawei certification on a CV shows practical interest even without a Huawei bursary.
