South African Institute of Black Property Practitioners (SAIBPP)

The South African Institute of Black Property Practitioners (SAIBPP) is a professional body that promotes transformation, investment and opportunity in South Africa’s property sector. SAIBPP was established to address the historical imbalances and challenges black property practitioners have faced, and to build an inclusive industry with diversity and equity in property ownership, development and management.

Why transformation in property matters

Property is one of the largest stores of wealth in any economy. Under apartheid, black South Africans were largely excluded from owning, developing and managing commercial property, and ownership and senior roles in the industry still do not reflect the country’s population. SAIBPP works to change that by building black professionals’ skills, networks and access to deals.

What SAIBPP offers members

SAIBPP gives members a directory to connect with industry leaders, peers and emerging talent, a learning and growth hub with training programmes and research, market intelligence, and the standing of a recognised professional body. SAIBPP also advocates for change on behalf of its members.

Student chapters

SAIBPP runs student chapters at universities across South Africa. The chapters act as hubs for young people in business and property, offering networking, mentorship and industry knowledge, and aim to build a community of future leaders who will transform real estate.

The SAIBPP Bursary Fund

SAIBPP’s bursary fund, now in its eighth year, has provided more than R10 million to students, according to BursariesAfrica’s earlier guide. The fund supports academically deserving students with financial need in full-time study in property studies, real estate, property development, valuation and management, property management, and property finance at any institution of higher learning in South Africa, including matriculants starting university in 2027.

The bursary covers full tuition and, where funds allow, study materials, allowances and accommodation. Bursars become SAIBPP student members and take part in community outreach and mentorship. Applicants need two testimonials, one from a teacher or lecturer and one from a community leader, and a motivational essay of up to 500 words.

Applications for 2027 opened on 1 September 2026 and close on 16 October 2026, by email with the subject line “SAIBPP BURSARY FUND 2027”.

Find out whether your university has a SAIBPP student chapter and attend an event before applying. Ask a community leader who knows your work to write a testimonial early, and explain in your essay how you would help transform the property sector.
