How TFG has been trading
TFG’s recent announcements show a retailer working through a tough market. In June 2025 TFG reported record turnover and profit, driven by its Africa business. By November 2025 TFG described difficult trading conditions with steady sales, and in June 2026 the group reported revenue growth and stronger resilience amid challenging conditions. Applicants who read these statements understand the pressures a large retailer faces, which helps in any TFG interview.
The TFG Fellowship: data science and leadership
TFG’s most specialised funding programme is the TFG Fellowship, a postgraduate award that builds data science capability inside the group. A retailer with 40 brands collects enormous amounts of sales, stock and customer data, and TFG funds fellows to turn that data into better decisions about pricing, ranges and supply.
Applications for the 2027 academic year opened on 1 June 2026 and close on 30 September 2026. The fellowship suits students with a strong quantitative background, such as mathematics, statistics, computer science or engineering, who want to apply those skills in retail.
The general TFG bursary page
BursariesAfrica also lists an older guide to The Foschini Group bursary. That page has not been refreshed for 2027, and BursariesAfrica could not confirm a current general bursary call on TFG’s website. Read it as background only.
Researching TFG yourself
TFG’s investor pages publish results presentations and profiles of the group’s leadership, including a chief financial officer who joined in September 2023 after roles at Oceana and Woolworths. Reading the most recent results presentation shows which brands and regions TFG is investing in, which fellowship applicants can connect to the data problems they want to solve. Confirm the fellowship’s requirements on TFG’s careers pages before applying, and ask whether fellows commit to working for TFG after their studies.
Students interested in retail careers without a data science background should also look at TFG’s graduate and store management opportunities, which TFG advertises separately from the fellowship.
Data students can compare the TFG Fellowship with other funders on our data science bursaries page.
