About the research for this page

Capitec’s website blocked BursariesAfrica’s research tools on 15 September 2026. This profile relies on a provider record checked in August 2026 and on BursariesAfrica’s research into Capitec’s 2027 bursary. Readers can confirm the details on Capitec’s careers pages in a normal browser.

What Capitec funds

Capitec funds students in the quantitative and technology disciplines a modern retail bank depends on: actuarial science, data, computer science, economics and finance. A digital bank uses those skills to build its app, assess credit risk, detect fraud and understand how millions of clients use their accounts.

The Capitec bursary goes further than tuition. BursariesAfrica’s research found a full package that includes accommodation and a meal allowance, work readiness training, and a job at the end: Capitec graduates work back one year for each year of funding.

The Capitec application window

The Capitec bursary for 2027 closed on 12 August 2026 at 14:00, and Capitec does not consider late applications. BursariesAfrica expects the 2028 round to open around June 2027 and close in mid-August 2027.

Researching Capitec before June

Because the bursary ends in a job, applicants should understand how Capitec works. Use Capitec’s app or visit a branch, read Capitec’s annual results announcements, and notice how the bank talks about simplicity, affordability and technology. An applicant who can explain how their degree could improve a digital banking product shows real interest.

Prepare for strong competition. Actuarial, data and computer science bursaries attract many high achievers, so keep Mathematics results strong and practise problem-solving tests. Ask Capitec which offices bursars join after graduating, because much of Capitec’s head office work happens in Stellenbosch and Cape Town.

Students who cannot commit to working at Capitec should consider funders without a work-back obligation instead.

Capitec’s bursars join a bank that serves millions of clients through branches and a mobile app, so graduates often work on systems used by a very large share of South African adults.
