Tshwane University of Technology (TUT) was established in 2004 and offers technology education and applied sciences to more than 60 000 students from across South Africa and Africa. TUT offers more than 300 study programmes through seven faculties and runs an accredited business school, the Tshwane School for Business and Society.

Campuses in three provinces

TUT has campuses in Gauteng, Mpumalanga and Limpopo: Pretoria, Soshanguve, Ga-Rankuwa, eMalahleni, Mbombela and Polokwane, with a Giyani campus in Limpopo due to open. TUT’s homepage welcomes visitors in several South African languages, reflecting a student body drawn from across the northern provinces.

What sets TUT apart

TUT says it is the only tertiary institution in South Africa with a stand-alone Faculty of ICT, and its Faculty of Engineering and the Built Environment is the largest in the country. TUT’s SunChaser solar car team has made it known in solar racing. TUT has 70 NRF-rated researchers, 17 research chairs and 16 centres and institutes, and ranks fourth nationally for creative research outputs.

In 2026 TUT began rolling out a ten-year strategic plan with the bold vision of becoming South Africa’s leading entrepreneurial university, building entrepreneurship into its courses.

Automatic postgraduate scholarships

From 2026, TUT automatically awards scholarships to top-performing students who continue to master’s or doctoral study at TUT, for students with an average of 75% or higher in their previous qualification. TUT’s Directorate of Financial Aid manages grants, bursaries, scholarships, donations and loans from government, NSFAS, foundations, employers and corporations, and answers online enquiries within three working days.

Beware of scams

TUT warns prospective students about application and registration scams on social media, fake emails and fake websites, and asks applicants to trust only TUT’s official website, social media pages and emails.

Some TUT programmes closed in June

TUT’s online portal opened on 1 April 2026 and closes on 30 September 2026. High-demand programmes such as pharmacy, radiography, engineering, nursing and architecture close earlier, and TUT listed qualifications already closed for 2027 as of 5 June 2026.
