About SBF High School Scholarship

The SBF High School Scholarship is a life-changing opportunity for financially deserving students in Cape Town. 

This scholarship grants admission to Grade 8 at one of SBF’s 13 prestigious partner schools within the Cape Town Metropole. 

These schools boast a reputation for academic excellence, providing students with a strong foundation for success.

Beyond academics, SBF goes the extra mile. Scholars are immersed in a holistic program designed to foster well-rounded individuals. 

This includes psychosocial support, academic tutoring, boarding options, opportunities to participate in sports and cultural activities, and a focus on community service.

By attending an SBF partner school and participating in their dedicated curriculum, scholars gain the academic foundation, essential skills, and exposure to diverse opportunities needed to thrive in the 21st century.

SBF High School Scholarship Eligibility Criteria

To qualify for the SBF High School Scholarship, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  1. You must reside in Cape Town, Western Cape, within a 25km radius of the SBF Newlands Office.
  2. You must be interested in attending one of the SBF partner schools listed in the article.
  3. You must be currently in Grade 6 (as of 2024) and aiming to enter Grade 8 in 2026.
  4. Academic Performance: A minimum overall average of 65% is required in both Grade 5 final and Grade 6 term 2 assessments. Additionally, a minimum of 65% for Mathematics and 70% for English in the same assessments is mandatory.
  5. Your household income must not exceed the following thresholds:
    • R17,000 (1 child in household)
    • R20,000 (2 children in household)
    • R23,000 (3 or more children in household)
  6. You must demonstrate qualities such as self-management, a growth mindset, critical thinking, goal orientation, and resilience.

SBF High School Scholarship Application Requirements

Applications for the SBF High School Scholarship are submitted online. 

Along with your application, ensure you include clear copies of the following supporting documents:

  1. South African Citizens: Unabridged birth certificate
  2. Non-South African Residents: Birth certificate and proof of valid study visa
  3. Academic Reports: Grade 5 final report and Grade 6 term 2 report
  4. Parental/Guardian Documents: ID documents and proof of residency (if not South African citizens)
  5. Proof of Household Income:
    • Employed: Most recent 3 salary slips and 3 months’ bank statements
    • Self-employed: 6 months’ bank statements
    • SASSA grant recipient: Proof of grant
    • Unemployed: Affidavit explaining the duration and reason for unemployment
    • Absent/Uninvolved Parent(s): Affidavit confirming this
    • Deceased Parent(s): Death certificate(s)
  6. Essay (350 words): Write about a defining moment in your life that has shaped you as a person.

Shortlisted candidates may be required to submit additional documents.
