Seta Launches Programme To Provide 20,000 Graduate Internships

The Services Seta has launched a new programme that aims to provide 20,000 internship opportunities to unemployed graduates across South Africa.

The Power of X² programme was officially launched at the Mahikeng Hotel School and is designed to help university and TVET college graduates gain practical workplace experience.

The programme is focused on graduates who have completed their studies but are struggling to enter the labour market because they lack work experience.

20,000 internship opportunities

The Services Seta said the programme will connect unemployed graduates with employers and give them the opportunity to develop practical skills in a real workplace.

Services Seta Administrator Lehlohonolo Masoga said the programme is intended to give young people the experience they need to improve their chances of finding employment.

The name Power of X² represents several areas the programme aims to promote, including expanded opportunities, experience, exposure, excellence and exchange.

Unlike many internship programmes that run for 12 months, the internships under this initiative will run for 24 months.

This will give graduates more time to gain workplace experience and develop skills that can be used when applying for permanent employment.

Employers to host graduates

The Services Seta is currently working to bring employers on board as host companies for the graduates.

According to the organisation, both public and private sector employers have shown interest in participating in the programme.

Graduates who are placed with participating employers will receive structured workplace learning while gaining experience in their respective fields.

The programme was officially launched in the presence of Higher Education and Training Minister Buti Manamela. Services SETA falls under the Department of Higher Education and Training’s skills development portfolio.

Who can apply?

The opportunity is aimed at unemployed university and TVET college graduates in South Africa.

Eligible graduates can register their details online to be considered for opportunities under the programme.
