South African Reserve Bank Bursary | Requirement & How To Apply

In South Africa, the shortage of skilled professionals is a challenge that needs immediate attention. To address this, the South African Reserve Bank (the Bank) offers bursaries to students from disadvantaged backgrounds.

These bursaries, known as the Bank’s External Bursary Scheme, are aimed at supporting students pursuing relevant fields of study.

The Bank’s bursary scheme is open to Grade 12 students facing financial difficulties. These students, referred to as external bursars, are given the opportunity to pursue full-time studies in various fields.

The bursaries cover a range of studies, including Economics, Actuarial Sciences, Mathematics, Information Technology, Finance, Law, Accounting, Medicine, Dentistry, and Social Work. This diversity ensures that students can pursue careers that align with both their interests and the needs of the country.

Once awarded, a bursary remains valid from the first academic year and is reviewed annually. This means that bursary holders do not need to reapply each year.

The Bank also provides vacation work opportunities for bursary holders, offering valuable practical experience funded by the Bank.

South African Reserve Bank Bursary Requirements

To be eligible for a bursary, applicants must meet certain criteria. These include achieving a minimum average of 70 percent in the June Matric/Grade 12 examinations and being South African citizens. Additionally, preference is given to students who lack the financial means to attend university.

South African Reserve Bank Bursary Closing Date

Applications for the bursary scheme must be submitted by 30 September each year. Along with the application form, applicants must provide their examination results, proof of acceptance at a recognized institution, and any other relevant documents.
