South32 Khutala Colliery (SAEC) is part of South32, a global metals and mining company.

SAEC operates four coal mining operations in Mpumalanga, including the Khutala Colliery (an underground bord and pillar operation) and three opencast mines (Klipspruit Colliery, Middelburg Colliery, and Wolvekrans Colliery).

They also operate processing plants to produce energy coal for domestic and export markets.

About South32 Khutala Colliery (SAEC) Bursaries

South32 Khutala Colliery offers two bursary programs to deserving students:

  1. Community Bursary: This bursary is open to South African citizens who are local community members residing near eMalahleni and Middelburg. It supports students pursuing any field of study at a recognized tertiary institution in South Africa.
  2. Child of Employee Bursary: This bursary is available to South African children of SAEC employees residing near eMalahleni and Middelburg. Similar to the community bursary, it supports studies in any field at a recognized South African tertiary institution.

Both bursaries offer comprehensive financial support, covering tuition fees, accommodation, meals, a book allowance, a laptop, and basic medical aid for students who are not already covered.

While there’s no guaranteed vacation work placement, the bursary considers such opportunities if necessary for completing your qualification.

Importantly, there’s no obligation to work for South32 after graduation.

South32 Khutala Colliery Bursary Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for either bursary, you must meet the following criteria:

  1. Be a South African citizen.
  2. Be a local community member of SAEC (near eMalahleni and Middelburg) for the community bursary or a child of an SAEC employee for the child of employee bursary.
  3. Currently be in Matric or have completed Matric.
  4. Be currently studying or intend to study for a Degree or Diploma qualification (any field of study).
  5. Be enrolled at or intend to enroll at a recognized tertiary institution in South Africa.

South32 Khutala Colliery Bursary Application Requirements

Applications for the South32 Khutala Colliery Bursary program are submitted online through the Career Wise portal.

  1. Register an Account: Before applying, create an account on the portal.
  2. Use the Correct Reference Code: During the application process, use the following reference code depending on the bursary you’re applying for:
    • Community Bursary: KHTCOMM21

  3. Submit Supporting Documentation: Along with your completed application form, submit clear copies of the following documents (incomplete applications will be disregarded):
    • Certified copy of your ID document.
    • Certified copy of your Matric results (if currently in Matric).
