Nkangala District Municipality covers the coal and power-station belt of Mpumalanga, from Emalahleni and Middelburg to Delmas, Belfast and Siyabuswa. Its annual bursary funds undergraduate students from the district’s six local municipalities in the engineering, planning, finance and social science fields the district needs, with priority for historically disadvantaged and low-income households.
About the Nkangala District Municipality Bursary
- Fields: architecture, civil engineering, disaster management, environmental management, finance, information technology and engineering (including robotics and software development), law, mining engineering, regional and town planning, and social sciences.
- Level: full-time undergraduate study at a recognised public university, university of technology or TVET college.
- Covers tuition and related study costs for the year, renewable on progress.
Nkangala Bursary eligibility requirements
- South African citizen aged 17 to 35, from a historically disadvantaged background.
- Living in Dr JS Moroka, Emakhazeni, Emalahleni, Steve Tshwete, Thembisile Hani or Victor Khanye local municipality.
- In Matric or completed Matric. Current students need at least a 60% average at university or 50% at a TVET college.
- Total household income of no more than R180 000 a year.
How to apply for the Nkangala Bursary
- Download the application form from nkangaladm.gov.za or collect it from a municipal office.
- Attach a certified ID, your Grade 11 and Matric results or certificate, academic records on the institution’s letterhead if you are already studying, proof of household income, proof of residence and a motivation letter.
- Hand-deliver the application to the Nkangala District Municipality offices at 2A Walter Sisulu Street, Middelburg, or to one of the local municipality offices, before 13:30 on 30 October 2026. Emailed and online applications are not accepted.
Nkangala Bursary closing date
30 October 2026 at 13:30 for the 2027 academic year.
