The Sun Slots opportunities page still invites learnership and internship applications by email with no closing or intake date published as of 29 September 2026.

Sun Slots, the Sun International subsidiary that runs limited payout machines (LPMs) in more than 700 licensed pubs, taverns, clubs and other venues, takes learners and interns into its shared services division. Its opportunities page keeps a standing invitation for unemployed matriculants to apply for a learnership by email, and a separate route for students who need workplace experience to finish a qualification. Sun Slots does not publish intake dates, a stipend or the number of places.

The company behind the learnership

Sun Slots began in 2002 as GPI Slots. Sun International now owns 70% of the business and Grand Parade Investments the remaining 30%. It is licensed to operate about 5 200 LPMs and runs six route operators in four provinces: Grandslots in the Western Cape, Kingdomslots and KZN Slots in KwaZulu-Natal, Hot Slots in Gauteng, and Grand Gaming Slots in Gauteng and Mpumalanga. The head office is in Milnerton, Cape Town. The learnership and internships described here are hosted within Sun Slots Shared Services.

Learnership for unemployed matriculants

Sun Slots classifies its learnership under category D of its learning programme matrix: an occupationally directed programme with a formal contract, combining institutional instruction with structured, supervised learning in the workplace, and formally assessed by an accredited body. It leads to a qualification registered with the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA), or a similar occupational or professional certificate. The page does not name the qualification or the field.

To be considered you must:

  • be a South African citizen;
  • be unemployed;
  • be no older than 35;
  • hold a matric certificate;
  • be willing to work at the company to gain experience and to sign up for a learnership.

Send an updated CV that shows your citizenship, your race and gender (Sun Slots collects these for employment equity reporting to the Department of Employment and Labour), your ID number, cellphone number and email address, together with a clear copy of your ID. Email it to recruit@sunslots.co.za with the subject line “Learnership – Sun Slots Shared Services – Name and Surname”, using your own name. Sun Slots states that applicants who do not meet the requirements will not be considered or contacted.

Internships for students finishing a qualification

The internship is a different route, for people still studying whose course requires a period in the workplace. Sun Slots places it in category B of its matrix: mixed-mode learning at a university, college or other institution plus supervised workplace experience, ending in a degree, diploma or certificate from an accredited institution. On top of the CV details and ID copy listed above, an intern applicant must send:

  • a latest statement of results;
  • a formal letter from the institution confirming that the internship is required to complete the qualification and stating how long it must last;
  • the name and contact details of an administrator at the institution.

Internship applications go to the same address, with the subject line “Internship – Sun Slots Shared Services – Name and Surname”.

Sun Slots bursaries on the same page

The opportunities page also advertises bursaries, with preference for matriculants waiting for a study opportunity, first-year students, and first-year students who could not register for second year for lack of money. Applicants must live in the province where the bursary is offered, be unemployed South African citizens aged 18 to 35, and come from a household earning less than R800 000 a year. Fields listed include mechanical or electrical engineering, human resources, marketing and sales, information technology, finance, business administration, hotel management, commerce and law. Enquiries go to bursaries@sunslots.co.za with the subject “Bursary Opportunities”; no closing date is given. The Sun International group’s Mpumalanga route operator runs its own Grand Gaming bursary, and more funders in these fields are on our commerce bursaries list.

For general questions, Sun Slots’ office at 1st Floor, Eagle Park, corner Bosmansdam and Omuramba Road, Milnerton, can be reached on 021 421 7771 or contact-us@sunslots.co.za. The full requirements are on the Sun Slots opportunities page.
