Toyota Tsusho Africa, established in Durban in 1999 as part of Japan’s Toyota Tsusho trading group, runs supply chain, logistics and production assembly operations for the South African motor industry. Its bursary programme funds undergraduate and postgraduate students in the business, engineering and IT fields the company recruits from, and it is advertised through the student funding offices of partner universities rather than on the company’s own website.
About the Toyota Tsusho Africa Bursary
- Fields: supply chain management; accounting and business science; mechanical and industrial engineering; computer science and information technology; marketing and public relations; and occupational health and safety. The TUT round adds environmental science, legal and risk management and digital business.
- Levels: undergraduate degrees and diplomas, and honours or Master’s degrees in the same fields.
- Covers tuition, textbooks and a monthly allowance.
- Includes holiday work at Toyota Tsusho’s operations, mentoring by company staff and consideration for the graduate programme and employment after graduation.

- South African citizen; some rounds also accept permanent residents.
- Enrolled, or enrolling, as a full-time student at a partner university in a listed field.
- A Matric average of at least 65%, and a 65% average maintained throughout the studies.
- Demonstrated financial need.
- Willing to do holiday work at the company.
How to apply for the Toyota Tsusho Bursary
- Check your university’s student funding or financial aid pages for the Toyota Tsusho Africa bursary advert and download the application form.
- Attach a certified ID, your academic transcripts, proof of university acceptance if you are a first-year, your parents’ or guardians’ proof of income and an unemployment affidavit where applicable.
- Submit as the advert directs: at MUT by email to the student funding contact named in the advert, and at TUT by hand delivery to the Student Funding Centre. Emailed applications are not accepted where the advert requires hand delivery.
- If you have not heard back by the feedback date in the advert (30 January at MUT, 11 December at TUT), the application was unsuccessful.
