VerifiedThe Transport Education and Training Authority is the SETA for everything that moves: road freight, rail, aviation, maritime, taxis, forwarding and clearing, and passenger transport. Its bursary for unemployed students is one of the most accessible in the country, with a 40% minimum average and a field list that now stretches from marine engineering to artificial intelligence.
About the TETA Bursary
- Transport and logistics: logistics management, transport economics, freight forwarding, operations management and maritime law.
- Engineering and technical: aeronautical, marine, mechanical, electrical and electronic engineering, plus aviation and diving qualifications such as the Commercial Pilot Licence and Airline Transport Pilot Licence.
- Business and technology: accounting, business and financial management, risk management, health and safety management, law, environmental studies, ICT, cloud computing, cybersecurity, data analytics, data science and artificial intelligence.
- Covers tuition fees, books, accommodation on or off campus, meals and transport where applicable.
TETA Bursary eligibility requirements
- South African citizen or permanent resident, currently unemployed.
- In Matric or with Matric, with at least a 40% overall average.
- From a previously disadvantaged background, with a household income of no more than R350 000 a year.
- Registered at an accredited public or private university, university of technology or TVET college.
How to apply for the TETA Bursary
- Register on the TETA online bursary system at indicium.teta.org.za.
- Upload certified copies, no older than six months, of your ID, academic results, proof of registration or acceptance, your parents’ IDs, proof of household income, an affidavit confirming that you are unemployed, and any documents your field requires.
- Submit before the closing date. TETA allocates bursaries by chamber and confirms awards with the institutions.
