- It’s calculated using a formula that considers a fixed amount and a variable amount based on your average daily income.
- Daily Benefit Amount (DBA):
- Multiply your average daily income by your IRR.
- Available Credit Days:
- The number of credit days you’ve accumulated determines the duration of your benefits.
- You can accumulate up to 238 credit days over 48 months.
- Total Benefit Amount:
- Multiply your daily benefit amount by your available credit days.
Here’s an example to illustrate the calculation:
Imagine you earned an average monthly income of R15,000 (capped at the UIF earnings ceiling of R17,712) for the past 24 months before becoming unemployed.
You also have 192 accumulated contribution credits.
- ADI: R17,712 (capped income) / 365 days = R48.53
- IRR (using the UIF formula): Approximately 43% (This will vary depending on your ADI)
- DBA: R48.53 (ADI) * 43% (IRR) = R20.88
