If you are a parent or guardian in the Western Cape and you want to move your child to a different school, now is the time to do it. The WCED (Western Cape Education Department) is currently accepting school transfer applications for 2027. This is your chance to submit your child’s transfer application before the deadline closes.
What Is a School Transfer Application?
A school transfer application is simply when you want to move your child from their current school to a new school. It is different from normal school admissions. The WCED handles transfer applications separately for Grades 2-7 and Grades 9-12. So if your child is in one of these grades and you want them to change schools, you need to submit a transfer application.
Where Do You Submit Your Application?
You have two options. You can:
- Go directly to the school where you want your child to transfer to, OR
- Visit your nearest WCED office
Both places can help you submit your application. If the school has an online option, you can also submit everything online. This makes it easier because you do not have to go in person if you do not want to.
What Documents Do You Need?
Before you submit your application, make sure you have these documents ready:
- Your child’s last school report card
- Your child’s ID, birth certificate, passport, study permit, or proof of application (or a police affidavit if you do not have these)
- Proof of address (or a police affidavit if you cannot provide this)
Having all these documents ready will make the process smooth and fast.
Important Deadline
Applications will close on 17 August 2026. This means you need to submit your application before this date. Do not wait too long — submit as soon as possible so you do not miss the deadline.
