The WIPHOLD Bursary Programme is offered by the Women Investment Portfolio Holdings (WIPHOLD), a proudly South African investment company established in 1994 by three remarkable African women.
WIPHOLD focuses on strategic investments across key economic sectors like Infrastructure, Food & Agriculture, Financial Services, and Mining & Energy.
Beyond its investment focus, WIPHOLD is dedicated to social transformation through the Women Development Trust Fund.
This fund aims to empower disadvantaged South African students from black communities to pursue tertiary education.
About the WIPHOLD Bursary
The WIPHOLD Bursary is a prestigious award for deserving South African students pursuing degrees in Actuarial Science, Agriculture, BCom Accounting/Chartered Accounting, and Engineering.
WIPHOLD selects recipients based on a combination of academic merit and their contributions to their school communities.
The bursary offers comprehensive financial support to cover tuition fees, textbooks, accommodation, and a monthly stipend.
The total value and number of bursaries awarded depend on the availability of funds.
Bursaries are renewable annually, based on the recipient’s academic performance and commitment to their studies.
Selected students may be required to participate in vacation work or corporate social responsibility initiatives organized by WIPHOLD or its partners.
WIPHOLD Bursary Eligibility Criteria
Before applying for the WIPHOLD Bursary, ensure you meet the following minimum requirements:
- You must be a South African citizen.
- You must be either currently enrolled in Matric or have already completed Matric.
- You must intend to pursue a degree in one of the specified fields: Actuarial Science, Agriculture, BCom Accounting/Chartered Accounting, or Engineering.
- You must demonstrate a strong desire to become a Chartered Accountant, Actuary, Engineer, or Agriculturist.
- You must have achieved a minimum of 70% in both Mathematics (not Maths Literacy) and English in your Matric results.
- Overall Average: A minimum overall average of “A” or “B” is required (applications with a “C” average might be considered on a case-by-case basis).
- You must have applied to at least two universities, with one situated near your home.
WIPHOLD Bursary Application Requirements
Once you confirm your eligibility, gather the following documents for your application:
- Certified Copy of your South African ID document
- Recent passport-sized photograph (attached to the application form)
- Certified copy of your Grade 11 final results (if currently in Matric)
- Certified copy of your Matric final results/certificate (if you have completed Matric)
- Certified copies of your parents’/guardian’s/spouse’s proof of income (latest payslips, affidavit if unemployed, proof of pension or SASSA grant if applicable)
- Certified copies of any testimonials, certificates, or supportive documents
- A short essay about yourself, your family background, and your future career aspirations.
- Written answers (on separate paper, in your own handwriting) to these questions:
- Why do you want to become a Chartered Accountant, Actuary, Engineer, or Agriculturist?
- What special skills do you believe are essential for success in your chosen field?
- Why are you confident that you will be a successful Chartered Accountant, Actuary, Engineer, or Agriculturist?
