Applications for the 2027 academic year are open and close on 30 September 2026 on the Absa careers portal.
Absa funds top Matriculants through North-West University’s Business, Mathematics and Informatics (BMI) programmes, the Potchefstroom and Vanderbijlpark degrees that train actuaries, data scientists, financial mathematicians and risk analysts. The bursary pays for everything from fees to a laptop and brings students into the bank for vacation work, making it one of the strongest routes into quantitative finance for school leavers.
About the Absa BMI Bursary
- Programmes: actuarial science, business analytics and data science, financial mathematics and quantitative risk management at North-West University, Potchefstroom or Vanderbijlpark campus.
- Covers registration and tuition fees, accommodation, textbooks and a laptop.
- Includes mentoring by Absa staff and vacation work at the bank, with consideration for its graduate programme.
Absa BMI Bursary eligibility requirements
- South African citizen, in Matric or with Matric.
- At least 70% for Mathematics and 70% for English in Grade 11.
- Enrolling, or applying, for a BMI programme at NWU Potchefstroom or Vanderbijlpark.
- Preference for candidates from designated groups.
How to apply for the Absa BMI Bursary
- Apply to North-West University for a BMI programme.
- Go to the Absa careers portal at absa.africa/careers, search for the BMI bursary and complete the online application.
- Upload a certified ID, your final Grade 11 results, your Matric results if available and a motivation letter of no more than one page.
- Submit before 30 September 2026. Shortlisted candidates complete assessments and interviews.
