The ABSIP‑STANLIB Bursary Programme for 2026 accepts applications until 17 January 2026.

Funding is limited and awarded to high‑performing black South African students pursuing investment management studies at selected universities. 

Late or incomplete submissions are not accepted.

About ABSIP and the Bursary

The Association of Black Securities and Investment Professionals (ABSIP) was formed in 1995 to increase black representation in South Africa’s investment sector. 

In partnership with STANLIB, ABSIP funds students studying investment‑related qualifications. 

The bursary supports academic excellence and aims to develop future finance leaders.

Fields of Study Funded

This bursary supports full‑time study towards one of the following degrees:

  • BBusSc (Business Science)
  • BCom (Commerce)
  • BSc (Science)

Within these degrees, study areas must include:

  • Investment Management
  • Financial Analysis
  • Economics
  • Business Finance
  • Mathematics or Statistics

Benefits for Recipients

Selected students receive financial support, including:

  • Tuition fees
  • Book allowance (textbooks and study materials)
  • Laptop (if financial need is shown)
  • Accommodation assistance (preferably on‑campus)
  • Monthly stipend based on need

Bursaries are renewable each year if you meet academic progress criteria.

Internships and vacation work opportunities with STANLIB may be offered from the third year.

Eligibility Criteria 

You must meet all the following requirements:

  • South African citizen
  • Black as defined by the B‑BBEE Act
  • Completed Matric
  • Enrolled or accepted full‑time in an investment‑related qualification at an approved public university
  • Achieved at least 75% average in core subjects
  • Demonstrated leadership and participation in extracurricular activities
  • Proven financial need
  • No permanent work experience (vacation work is allowed)
  • Not a STANLIB employee or relative of one
  • ABSIP student member for at least six months at application time

How to Apply

  1. Apply online via the official ABSIP bursary portal.
  2. Complete all sections—including how you heard about the bursary.
  3. Upload all required documents (see below) in one session.
  4. Submit before 17 January 2026.

Required Documents

You must include clear, certified copies of:

  • Your ID document
  • Matric certificate or latest transcript
  • University fee statement or quote (on institution letterhead)
  • One-page motivational letter about your interest in investment management
  • Parent/guardian ID and proof of income or affidavit (if unemployed)
    Your application may be disqualified if any documents are missing.

Selection Process

ABSIP and STANLIB will review all eligible applications. 

They assess academic results, leadership, financial need, and suitability for a career in investment management. Shortlisted candidates may be invited for interviews. 

Offers are made in the first quarter of the year.

Closing Date

The portal closes at midnight on 17 January 2026.

The deadline is strict, no late or incomplete applications will be accepted.
