Who Can Apply?

Undergraduate Bursary Eligibility
To qualify for the undergraduate bursary, you must meet the following:
Academic Requirements
- You must be admitted to a South African public university.
- You must be studying in a field prioritised by CSIR.
- You must be studying full-time.
Grade 11 / Grade 12 Requirements
For STEM fields:
- Minimum Level 5 for English First Language or Level 4 for English Second Language in Grade 11
- Preferably Level 6 or higher for Mathematics and Physical Science in Grade 11
For Non-STEM fields:
- Minimum Level 5 for English First Language or Level 4 for English Second Language in Grade 11
- Minimum Level 6 in the subject that is required for your chosen degree
Current University Students
- You must have passed all modules for the study periods already completed.
Postgraduate Bursary Eligibility
The CSIR Postgraduate Bursary supports:
- Honours
- BTech
- Master’s
- Doctoral students
- Or equivalent qualifications recognised by SAQA
Requirements:
- You must be registered or intend to register at a South African public university.
- You must be studying full-time.
- Your field of study must be prioritised by CSIR.
- You must have passed all previous modules.
What Does the Bursary Cover?
The CSIR bursary is a full-cost bursary, meaning it covers most study-related expenses.
Financial Support Includes:
- Registration fees
- Tuition fees
- Accommodation and meals
- Living allowance
- Book allowance
- Laptop allowance (once-off)
Coverage depends on the level of study.
